Abstract: This report focuses upon inquiring how a mid-career high school teacher copes with one's mid-career crisis as a teaching profession in this difficult era. Teachers have suffered for so many and inconsistent educational reforms executed by government since the 1990's in Japan. Teacher's stress is increasing gradually during the period of these educational reforms. Therefore now it is more difficult for teachers to promote their professional developments than before. However some teachers seem to realize their professional developments as reflective practitioners despite such a difficult situation. I explore a life story of a public high school teacher who has promoted his professional development by reconstructing his own teaching and professional identity. In this case study I try to show the possibility and difficulty of teacher's professional development in this knowledge based society.
